Finalists announced for Brooklyn Senior Idol Contest
Fourteen talented contestants will be competing in the finals of the Brooklyn Senior Idol competition, a showcase for older adults with the show business bug. The contestants will put their talents on the line at the finals, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Xaverian High School, 7100 Shore Road in Bay Ridge, at 7 p.m.
The finalists, who will be performing a wide variety of music from Italian opera to pop hits, are: Julia Diorio, Rafael Calderon, Jr., Victoria Keller, Andy Gandolfo, Donald Coy, Stephanie Spatajakis, Daarley Brown, Gianvito Bottalico, Vincenzo Valerio, Mario D’Amico, Anthony Neve, Gagz Danzo, Lee Spinosa and Ernest Carrai.
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize awarded by Investor’s Bank.
State Sen. Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-southwest Brooklyn), who sponsors the contest, announced that that singer Bobby Valli, the younger brother of singing legend Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, will serve as the celebrity judge for the competition. Valli will also treat the audience by performing some of the Four Seasons greatest hits during intermission.
This year marks the Eighth Annual Brooklyn Senior Idol Contest.
Golden is predicting that this year’s contest will be the best one yet. “There is no doubt that the stage will showcase Brooklyn talent, and Bobby Valli will surely make the show a night to remember,” he said.
Tickets for the show can only be purchased at the door at $10.00 per person. All proceeds from the show will be donated to Xaverian High School’s Music Department. Everyone who purchases a show ticket will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win two tickets to the Broadway hit “Jersey Boys.”
