Brooklyn Historical Society’s Brooklyn bounty celebrates borough’s food, culture heritage

Each year at Brooklyn Historical Society’s (BHS’s) Brooklyn Bounty, 400+ guests enjoy chef’s tastings of the best food Brooklyn has to offer, music, cocktails and more. This year’s event will be held on Oct. 22 at a new space — 26 Bridge in DUMBO.

The theme this year is Kings County Agricultural Fair. George Shea, chairman of Major League Eating and host of Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest, will be the emcee of the evening. Festivities will include Brooklyn chef tastings, a themed photo booth, a penny social raffle, a live auction and more. Live music will be provided by the Roosevelt Dime, a Brooklyn-based, five-piece band that blends acoustic jug-band blues, classic New Orleans soul and neo-folk.

The event begins with VIP early access for sponsors, elected officials and donors, followed by the chef’s tastings and the 4th Annual Brooklyn Food & Heritage Awards.

2014 Awardees include Alan Rosen, third generation owner of Junior’s Restaurant; Ben Flanner, head farmer of Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farms; and Father Jim O’Shea and Efrain Hernandez, directors of ReConnect Café.

Each week, chefs are featured in BHS’s blog in an ongoing series in which they describe their passion for the borough of Brooklyn, as well as the tasting provided from their respective menus.

Each Brooklyn chef or food purveyor will provide a tasting from their local menu, featuring a mix of local products from favorite businesses, including Auria’s Malaysian Kitchen, BEP, Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn Farmacy, Brooklyn Oenology, Brooklyn Roasting Company, Brooklyn Winery, Delaware and Hudson, Fletcher’s BBQ, French Louie, GuS Grown-Up Soda, Hunter’s, The Jam Stand, Junior’s Restaurant, Kings County Distillery, Madiba, Mast Brothers Chocolate, NY Distilling Company, Oddfellows Ice Cream Co, Pacifico’s Fine Foods, Palo Santo, Pig Guy NYC, Red Hood Lobster Pound, SCRATCHbread, Shake Shack DUMBO, Shelsky’s Smoked Fish, Taco Santo and Tom’s Restaurant.

Tickets are available at $200 per guest and may be purchased online at brooklynhistory.org. On-site event sponsorship with program listing opportunities are also available.

VIP Access for our sponsors, elected officials and donors will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. General admission is from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Last year, Brooklyn Bounty raised more than $160,000 in support of Brooklyn Historical Society’s education programs. With these funds, thousands of New York City school students were able to take advantage of inquiry-based learning experiences that help them understand that history is dynamic.
