New York City taxpayers will be paying $72 million to build a new hydroelectric power plant along the Cannonsville Reservoir – 120 miles northwest of the city, in Delaware County – that will produce clean electric energy for the city, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and producing $2 million of revenue per year.

Clean energy will help Mayor Bill de Blasio and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s visions for a greener city.

The new power plant will produce enough energy to power around 6,000 homes and prevent emission of 25,620 metric tons of greenhouse gases.
