Latino Stars in New York to come out for awards event

A special event honoring influential Latin New Yorkers will be held at the Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Honorees at the event, titled Latino Stars Awards and Networking Event, include men and women who have made a difference in New York.

Several of Brooklyn’s top professionals will also participate in the event. Among the Brooklynites being honored are Deputy Borough President Diana Reyna; Ramon J. Rodriguez, president and CEO, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center; and Jairo Borja, director of business development, career services, Berkeley College.

As the name suggests, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with a business expo with networking opportunities. It will be followed by dinner and an awards ceremony. The event will conclude with a charity raffle benefiting the nonprofit organization Hispanics Across America. Attendees can look forward to a performance by Voz a Voz, a two-time Latin Billboard and Grammy nominee musical group.

Other prominent guests expected to attend the event and be recognized are Ruben Diaz Jr., the Bronx borough president; City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito; Geraldo Rivera, a prominent author, attorney and TV anchor; Ms. Republica Dominicana U.S. 2013 Thatiana Diaz; and Giovanni Savarese, head coach of the New York Cosmos. The MCs for the evening will be Mike Woods, FOX 5 meteorologist, and Ines Rosales, FOX 5’s traffic reporter.

Lifetime Achievement Awards will be given to Fernando Mateo, founder of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, and Stella Mateo, founder of SheRides, a car service app.
