It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Anna Becker, executive director of On Stage at Kingsborough, as she and her staff get ready to celebrate the start of what they hope will be yet another successful season.

“What’s really distinct about this upcoming season is that within every series there is a range of offerings,” said Becker of this season’s lineup, made up of five series: Cabaret, Dance, Music, Theatre and Family. “There’s truly something for everyone.”

According to Becker, each series has a wide range. For example, she said, this season’s dance series has everything from Broadway to Russian ballet while this season’s music series offers up everything from world renowned orchestras to the sounds of the Four Seasons brought to you by the Hit Men.

“Look at any one series and there’s so much diversity,” she said.

And that, Becker said, is the Kingsborough mission.

“It’s really a part of our mission to bring these artistically and culturally diverse, multi-disciplinary performances to our Brooklyn stage, and to make these world class performances affordable,” said Becker, noting that this season specifically has a few world premieres under its belt including Timeless: Three Generations of the Great American Songbook and Cool Hand Luke, a world-premiere production by the Godlight Theatre Company.

“We have a lot of shows where [On Stage at Kingsborough] is the first place it’s going to be seen, and that’s really more this year than ever,” Becker said, stressing that, for many of those shows that aren’t world premieres, it’s still their first time in the borough. “For a lot of these shows, this is their first time in Brooklyn.”

On Stage at Kingsborough’s 2014-2015 season will kick off on Sunday, October 5 with an extra special musical performance by Igor Butman’s Moscow Jazz Orchestra at 3 p.m.

“Really our aim is to present the leading performing artists in their particular discipline,” said Becker noting that “if you’re going to see a jazz orchestra, you want to see Igor Butman’s,” and, “if you’re going to see the ballet, you’re going to want to see the State Ballet Theatre of Russia’s rendition of ‘Swan Lake,’” hitting Kingsborough’s Leon M. Goldstein stage on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 8 p.m.

“We want ticket-holders to walk away saying ‘That was awe-inspiring,” said the executive director adding that much of the feedback in years past has been extremely positive. “We hear that a lot – that the performances are breathtaking.”

Becker’s favorite part of the season is that, just like a good snack, she can’t have just one.

“I love all my children; I would hate to pick one over all of them,” she joked, “but I am extra excited this year because I feel like we have a lot of really big shows.”

The one word Becker used to describe the 2014-2015 season? Grand.
