72nd Precinct cop recognized for service

Captain Thomas Ng presented a plaque of recognition to Police Officer Elvis Merizalde, who was also congratulated by Councilmember Carlos Menchaca, Lieutenant Meyer and 72nd Precinct Community Council President Donna Maxil.
A loaded firearm was confiscated with no injuries thanks to what Captain Thomas Ng of the 72nd Precinct describes as the cautious police work of Police Officer Elvis Merizalde, meriting him the distinction of being named August’s Cop of the Month.
The honor was bestowed upon Merizalde by precinct commanding officer Ng, who noted that “no one was injured, but there is one less gun on the streets.”
The man spotted carrying the gun on 53rd Street at around 8:30 p.m. on August 23 was apprehended without incident.
Merizalde, a six-year veteran of the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, was awarded a plaque and an extra vacation day.
