American Heart Association brings Heart Walk to Brooklyn
The American Heart Association will be bringing the Heart Walk to Brooklyn on Oct. 5. Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. at the Cadman Plaza North Lawn, followed by the walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park at 9 a.m. The walk, which was last held in Brooklyn in 2009, will be in addition to the annual Wall Street Run & Heart Walk.
The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere event for raising funds to save lives heart disease and stroke. The three-mile walk, designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, is a family-friendly event.
The Heart Walk is part of My Heart My Life, the American Heart Association’s national movement to radically improve America’s health through a comprehensive wellness and fitness platform for businesses and families. The movement has been developed in response to America’s obesity crisis, the lack of physical activity among the population and rising healthcare costs. According to the American Heart Association, more than 140 million people are overweight or obese and sedentary jobs have increased 83 percent since 1950.
