Police Beat: Hero cops honored for saving fire victims

Two 68th Precinct police officers were lauded as Cops of the Month for September for their efforts in rescuing five people from a burning building.

P.O. Francis Ingebrethsen and P.O. Ethan Clyde were on patrol on August 1 when a fire broke out on the fifth floor of an apartment building on 92nd Street, between Third and Fourth Avenues, Captain Ray Festino, the precinct’s commanding officer, told members of the precinct community council, gathered at the station house on Tuesday, September 16 for their monthly meeting.

“They arrived with the Fire Department and started clearing out the building,” said Festino. In all, the cops saved five residents, including one elderly person, he went on.

“As they left, they wound up getting pretty sick from smoke inhalation,” Festino added. “Their bravery and courage without question saved lives that night.”
