LEADING LADIES

Join the Brooklyn Public Library for Daring to Lead – an official Brooklyn Book Festival Bookend Event featuring world-renowned author and journalist Gail Sheehy and Girls who Code Founder Reshma Saujani on Thursday, September 18.

The event, taking place at the BPL’s Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza), will welcome the leading ladies to discuss the need to embrace risk and failure to chart your own course boldly. Sheehy will also discuss her latest memoir, Daring: My Passages and Saujani will discuss her newest book, Women Who Don’t Wait in Line.

The event is free of charge and will take place in the library’s Dweck Center at 7 p.m. Books will be sold at the event. For more information, visit www.bklynpubliclibrary.org.

RACE FOR THE KIDS

Thousands of New Yorkers will hit the ground running for the 10th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City RBC Race for the Kids, held this year on Saturday, September 20 at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park as part of the Nickelodeon Worldwide Day of Play.

The 5K race – with registration starting at 8 and a kick-off at 8:45 a.m. – will help raise money towards providing one-to-one mentoring relationships for young people throughout the five boroughs. Following the race will be an award ceremony and picnic at 9:45 a.m. where participants can take part in special festivities and enjoy appearances by popular Nickelodeon characters.

It costs just $20 to register and $25 if you would like your race timed. Runners are invited to raise more through sponsors. For more information or to register, visit www.raceforthekids.org.

THREE LITTLE PIGS’ NEW TUNE

The Brooklyn Public Library will welcome children of all ages on Saturday, September 20 for a special presentation of The Three Little Pigs/Los Tres Cerditos. Mama Piggy will narrate this bilingual adaption, featuring a vegetarian wolf and the three little pigs on his side of town.

Action, adventure, Salsa and other Latin music will keep audiences clapping along, en route to what the library promises is a happy ending for the piggies.

The free event will take place at 1 p.m. in the BPL’s Central Library’s Dweck Center (10 Grand Army Plaza). The family-friendly event is presented by the Society of the Educational Arts Inc.
