Hats off to the heroes.

Members of the Bensonhurst community came out to honor six “hero” Cops of the Month at the 62nd Precinct Community Council’s September 16 meeting. This month, the venue was standing-room-only as local elected officials, Community Council President Lou Trimboli and Captain Bill Taylor awarded the six men with citations.

Police Officers Alex Knjewski, Thomas Silla, Eric Smith, Edward Nogol and Elias Khan and Sergeant Michael Dario were awarded for their hand in three life-saving incidents in the month of August.

Knjewski and Silla were awarded for saving the life of a choking baby, just three weeks old, on the evening of Tuesday, August 12, while Dario and Khan were awarded for saving the life of another choking baby, this time, two weeks old, on Monday, August 25.

Smith and Nogol were awarded for their quick save of a young woman choking at the Santa Rosalia feast on Friday, August 22.

“I wish I could duplicate those officers who show so much courage,” lauded Councilmember Mark Treyger who joined Assemblymembers Peter Abbate and William Colton to congratulate the cops in person. “Thank you for doing something I know you guys do every day.”

Their captain, Taylor, agreed.

“Our Cops of the Month are heroes of the month,” he said. “No doubt about it.”
