With 24 original flavors of wings – sold both on the bone and in boneless bites – it’s hard not to want to check out 86th Street’s brand new Planet Wings, located at 8612 Fifth Avenue.

“We’re happy to be in Brooklyn,” said Owner Vinny Martella – joined on staff by his brother, Co-Owner James Martella – of the chain restaurant’s first Brooklyn location, alongside four in neighboring borough Staten Island, “especially in Bay Ridge with the population and the diversity. I really think this is a great place for us.”

Conceived in 1994 by founders Franco and Paula Fidanza, Planet Wings is about way more than just the wings, says Martella.

“We’ve got 24 flavors but we’re not just wings,” he said, pointing to the menu. Alongside the wings – which come in sizes from five to 100 pieces – are sandwiches, burgers, chicken tenders and even gyros, Philly cheesesteaks, burritos and salads. “We specialize in a whole bunch of stuff.”

Created with the idea that there are not many delivery services for the good old-fashioned chicken wing, Planet Wings now offers door-to-door delivery service, alongside pick-up service and, to top it off, orders can be placed both over the phone and on the website through the brand new online ordering system.

“We deliver, which is a huge plus,” said Martella.  “There aren’t many places you can get a 20-piece order of chicken wings – and a gyro – delivered to your home.”

The icing on the buffalo sauce-drizzled cake? An order from Planet Wings won’t break your bank.

An order of 10 original wings will cost you $7.99 while an order of five original wings will run you just under five bucks. Soak them in your favorite flavor – including mild, medium, hot, classic BBQ, honey BBQ, teriyaki, butter garlic, lemon pepper, ranch, and more – for no additional cost. And, don’t forget the Game Day Deals, this football season.

Planet Wings has been open at its new home on Fifth Avenue for a little less than a month, and Martella just wants the people of the neighbourhood to know it’s here and open for business. “We’ve got something here for everybody,” he said, “and we’ll bring it right to your door.”

Using nothing but premium products – with a strict only-Bell and Evans brand chicken policy – Planet Wings promises great food at an even better price.

“People love it here,” said Martella, adding that, before the eatery’s Ridge debut, the Staten Island locations were seeing Brooklyn customers daily. “We’re excited to share the love with Brooklyn.”
