On the eve of the 13th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has added the names of 13 department members who died from illnesses related to their work at Ground Zero to the World Trade Center Memorial Wall at FDNY headquarters.

In attendance at the Thursday, September 4 event were Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, First Deputy Commissioner Robert Turner II, Chief of Department Edward Kilduff and the families of the 13 deceased FDNY members.

“Coming home 12 years later to a department I love, I still see our families grieving, far too many of our members still suffering, and I see that terrible day continues to take far too many of the very best among us,” said Nigro. “Each of these 13 FDNY members we honor in this ceremony responded to the attacks or took part in the arduous task of searching day and night for their 343 FDNY brothers and the thousands of civilians killed.”
