On Friday, August 29, Councilmember Mathieu Eugene joined Borough President Eric Adams and members of the Lebrun family of East Flatbush during a press conference outside City Hall to show support for the family, who lost five relatives in a fatal car crash on the night of Saturday, August 23.

“My deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers go out to the relatives and loved ones of the five people who lost their lives in Saturday night’s tragic car crash,” said Eugene. “They will be greatly missed by everyone who had the good fortune of knowing them while they were on this Earth, and their joyful spirits will never be forgotten. “

It was announced that donations were being accepted to help with the cost of funeral and burial expenses. “During this very difficult time, I am asking New Yorkers to show support for the family of the deceased,” added Eugene.

Among those that perished in the car crash were driver Myriam Lebrun, 37; her children Marcus Jeanty, 14, Marcel Jeanty, nine, and Kayla Jeanty, eight; and their grandmother Moise Yolande, 68.

The vehicle was heading west on the Southern State Parkway when it veered off the highway, crashed into a tree, and burst into flames. All the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is so critically important that all of us offer our support – both emotionally and financially – to the Lebrun family. It is our moral responsibility and obligation to help this courageous family as they endeavor to move forward in the aftermath of their tremendous loss,” said Eugene.
