TIME magazine book critic Lev Grossman, as part of St. Joseph’s College’s and Greenlight Bookstore’s Brooklyn Voices lecture series, will launch his new book, “The Magician’s Land,” on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Grossman will appear in conversation with fellow fantasy authors Lauren Oliver, Margaret Stohl and Erin Morganstern, and following the talk, the authors and other surprise guests will conduct a dramatic presentation featuring elements of the book.
“I’m especially thrilled to be hosting Lev Grossman for this launch event — he’s a neighbor and friend of Greenlight, and I am personally an obsessive fan of the Magicians series, which I will tell anyone who will listen is far better than Harry Potter,” stated Jessica Stockton Bagnulo, co-owner of Greenlight Bookstore. “Lev has a lot of fans out there who will love this conclusion to the series, and we’re looking forward to hosting a star-studded lineup of fantasy authors to help celebrate the launch.”
A resident of Fort Greene, Grossman is the author of the bestselling “Magicians” trilogy, which opened with “The Magicians”, described by famed writer Junot Diaz as “stirring, complex, adventurous…[a] superb coming of age fantasy”, and its sequel, “The Magician King,” was cited as “a spellbinding stereograph, a literary adventure novel that is also about privilege, power and the limits of being human” by NPR. Legions of fans now await “The Magician’s Land,” the concluding novel of the trilogy.
This event will take place in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium, St. Joseph’s College, 245 Clinton Ave., and is free and open to the public. The event will be preceded by a “Magicians” trivia contest at 7 p.m. with “Magicians” -related prizes for the winner.
