MLK concert series kicking off on July 21

Last year, the Martin Luther King Jr. concert series attracted almost 10,000 people every week. And, this year its back looking to do the same starting Monday, July 21.

This is our 32^nd season and were very excited to be once again providing these free concerts to the people of New York City, said Debra Garcia, executive director and executive producer of Martin Luther King Jr. concert series. Its a very well-known concert series and I think especially people in Brooklyn look forward to every year. Theyre a New York City tradition at this point and were just thrilled to present them again.

Anthony Hamilton will kick the series off on July 21, with the performer the following week, July 28, to be announced. Then, on August 4, it will be Old School Night starring Roxanne Shanté, Biz Markie, Rob Base and Kool Moe Dee. On August 11, VP Records will present Reggae Night with Gyptian and a special guest, and the finale concert, August 18, will be Gospel Night, starring Tamela Mann and the Christian Cultural Center choir.

The concert series is free to the public. The concerts will be held Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Wingate Field, located on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street.
