There’s nothing quite like taking a big test and then finding out that you aced it.

The Maimonides Breast Cancer Center, a facility at 745 64th St. in Bay Ridge run by Maimonides Medical Center, achieved a perfect score of 100 percent when experts from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers came to take a look.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) is administered by the American College of Surgeons.

As a result of the NAPBC findings, the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation. The center demonstrated perfect compliance, passing 27 out of 27 NAPBC standards, including proficiency in the areas of clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, quality improvement and leadership.

“This is wonderful news for our patients,” said Dr. Patrick Borgen, chairman of the Department of Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center and director of the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center. “The NAPBC accreditation affirms in the most essential way that we are delivering the finest care possible to each and every patient in Brooklyn.”

Accreditation by the NAPBC is awarded to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

In the US, there are over 6,500 programs that care for patients with breast disease.  Of these, 547 are accredited by the NAPBC. In New York State, there are 31 centers with this prestigious designation, including six in New York City.

The Maimonides Breast Cancer Center is the only facility in Brooklyn to earn the designation.

The American Cancer Society estimates that http://www.cancer.org/cancer/breastcancer/detailedguide/breast-cancer-key-statistics approximately 232,340 cases of invasive breast cancer occur annually in the US. Hundreds of thousands of women will deal with breast disease this year, and will require medical evaluation for treatment options.

“The Maimonides Breast Cancer Center literally encompasses every known modality and delivers care at the highest possible level for our patients,” Borgen said.

The center offers screening, diagnostic, medical and surgical breast services across the spectrum of breast disease, as well as nutrition and genetic counseling, as well as social support for patients and families.
