JACQUES DERRIDA was born on this day in 1930.  Derrida was a French philosopher and proponent of deconstruction.  He died in 2004 in Paris, France. 

BROOKLYN EVENTS include “Secret New York” to be featured at BookCourt today at 7 p.m.  The event is hosted by Nathan Pyle and author T.M. Rives who will discuss “local guides by local people,” present a reading and audience Q&A and will have a book signing. 

ROBOT WORKSHOP: A Summer Reading Event will take place at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Carroll Gardens Library today from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.  The event is a workshop and occurs weekly. 

 

ON THIS DAY in 1914, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Arbuckle Memorial to Bring Greatest Art Exhibit Here.”  The article focused on a contemporary art show that was to be exhibited in Brooklyn. 
“The greatest and most representative assemblage in the world of the work of contemporary American artists is to be exhibited in Brooklyn this full in connection with the dedication of the John Arbuckle memorial buildings given by his heirs to the trustees of Plymouth Church,” the article reported.
