ON THIS DAY in 1911, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Offers Five-Cent Fare if the City Will Take Interborough Plan.”  The article focused on a plan to take care of city deficits at the time and also advance the transit system.

“’Nothing that I do,’ [J. Sergeant Cram] said, ‘will have any effect upon the action taken by the commissioners in regard to large affairs that are pending,’” the article reported.  “’There will be no delay.  I shall not in any way stand so as to prevent immediate action.’”
