Double Dutch and hoops: PAL’s Summer Playstreets open Monday
The Police Athletic League (PAL) will be launching its 2014 Summer Playstreets program in Brooklyn on Monday, July 7th. The program closes off streets and utilizes other public areas, such as playgrounds and parks, throughout New York City to provide children with safe, supervised places to enjoy outdoor summer activities.
Playstreets are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 22nd (except August 1st), are free to all New York City children, and will offer sports, arts and crafts, games, music and dance. Featured activities include double Dutch, hopscotch, Nok Hockey and basketball.
PAL is operating close to 50 Playstreets throughout the five boroughs this summer, in addition to offering Cops & Kids teams and day camps. Brooklyn locations include 61st Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues, the Linden Houses’ playground, the Coney Island Houses’ playground, Kelly Playground, Fox Playground, Rewald Salgada Park, the Osborne Street cul-de-sac, and the Alice Branch Family Shelter.
