Nortee Panpinyo doesn’t have dream of playing golf with the pros. He has already done it!

Nortee, 13, a junior golfer from Bensonhurst, and PGA pro Gregg Gaulocher came to the rescue of several golfers at the finals of the Aberdeen Asset Management Putting Challenge at the World Financial Center in Manhattan on June 16. Nortee and Gaulocher served as “lifelines,” using their superior skills to help players advance in the tournament, operated by the City Parks Foundation.

If a participant missed in the first or second rounds, Norteeand his golfing buddy Gaulocherwould go in and make the same putt the player missed to help advance that person to the next round. Nortee putted to help two finalists advance to the third round.

Bob Savitt won the title of “New York City’s Aberdeen Asset Management Putting Champion,” as well as a grand prize package for two to attend the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen in Scotland. He clinched his spot in the finals at the qualifying challenge on May 28, after he made seven consecutive putts. At the finals, Savitt proved his talent yet again by beating out eight other finalists, and sinking a ten foot putt after two final rounds of nail biting action.

“Aberdeen Asset Management is a global company which places great value in supporting golf from the grassroots up. Headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, ‘the home of golf’, we sponsor golf at all levels of the game and the Putting Challenge is a great way for us to get New Yorkers excited about golf in the lead up to NBC’s coverage of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open next month.” said Jill Maxwell, head of Sponsorship for Aberdeen Asset Management.

“We are delighted to be supporting City Parks Foundation and the charity’s aims of making golf more accessible to youngsters in a fun and accessible atmosphere,” Maxwell added.

The Aberdeen Asset Management Putting Challenge is a free lunchtime putting challenge that was held in ten business locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn leading up to the exclusive VIP Final event. Each qualifying challenge tested the putting skills of local amateur golfers, and the player with the most consecutive successful putts at moved on to the finals to compete against the other finalists from around the city.

Proceeds from the contest benefit CityParks Golf, a free instructional program sponsored by the City Parks Foundation, which reaches 3,500 urban youths annually.

The goal of CityParks Golf is to make the sport accessible, fun, and easy for 3,500 boys and girls, ages six to 17, who learn to play golf at all skill levels. With free lessons and use of equipment, the program is held in 11 public parks and on citywide golf courses.

Founded in 1989, City Parks Foundation (CPF) is an independent nonprofit organization offering park programs throughout the five boroughs. CPF works in over 750 parks citywide, presenting a broad range of free arts, sports and education programs.
