This Sunday, June 8 will mark the return of the Puerto Rican Day Parade to Manhattan, as well as informal festivities in Sunset Park. The following is a message from the 72nd Precinct about street closures planned in the area:

Greetings Fellow Community Members,

On Sunday, June 8th, 2014, the Puerto Rican Day Parade will be occurring in Manhattan from 1:00AM till 1:00PM.

Every year, Puerto Ricans celebrate their exciting and vibrant culture, wearing their island’s flag and colors and driving around the city sharing their musical traditions. Due to an overflow of vehicles in the Sunset Park area, as we do every year, we will be increasing our police presence in and around the confines of the 72nd Precinct.

On Sunday, June 8th, 2014 at approximately 2:00pm we will be putting a traffic freeze in effect on 5th Avenue between 43rd Street and 60th Street. No vehicular traffic will be allowed to travel down those streets between 4th and 6th Avenues. This traffic freeze will be in effect until 8:00pm.

Drinking in public and bbq’ing on sidewalks will not permitted and any excessive noise will be enforced.

Please pass this along to your friends, family, co-workers and constituents.

There will be ZERO TOLERANCE with any violations observed by our uniformed and plain clothes officers.

Stay safe and have a Happy and Safe Puerto Rican Day!

Viva Puerto Ricoooooooo!

Thank you for your assistance and cooperation,
