Stanley Cup final has Schumer in a betting mood
There’s more at stake in the National Hockey League finals between the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings than just the Stanley Cup. How about New York vs. LA hotdogs?
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, who is rooting for the Rangers, has placed a friendly wager with his colleague from California, US Senator Barbara Boxer, a Kings fan, over the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals. Schumer wagered a case of Brooklyn Lager beer and soft pretzels from a classic New York City food cart vendor outside the Rangers’ home stadium, Madison Square Garden. Boxer wagered beer from Eagle Rock Brewery and Pink’s hot dogs.
The two senators, @SenSchumer and @SenatorBoxer, formally placed their bet on Twitter.
“Congratulations to the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings for making it to the finals, and I look forward to sipping Eagle Rock beer straight from the Stanley Cup when the Rangers win this year,” Schumer said. “Los Angeles may have stolen our Dodgers, but there’s no chance they are taking our cup.”
But Boxer was having none of it.
“I am sorry my good friend, Senator Schumer, hasn’t noticed that the Kings won the Stanley Cup two years ago, and this year made an epic come-from-behind victory to get to the finals,” she said. “I look forward to celebrating the Kings’ victory over the Rangers with some special New York treats. Go Kings Go!”
According to the terms of the bet, if the Rangers beat the Kings, Boxer will purchase Pink’s hot dogs and Eagle Rock Brewery beer for Senator Schumer and his staff. If the Kings win, Senator Schumer will purchase Brooklyn Lager and soft pretzels for Senator Boxer and her staff.
Boxer got off to a good start in the best-of-seven series. The Kings won Game One on Wednesday night, 4-3 in overtime.
