EAST NEW YORK — Political leaders and anti-violence advocates in East New York are offering a monetary award for information leading to the apprehension of a suspect in Sunday’s fatal stabbing incident at the Boulevard Houses that claimed six-year-old Prince Joshua Avitto and left seven-year-old Mikayla Capers in critical condition. Speaking from the headquarters of Man Up!, a local anti-violence and social service agency, Borough President Adams offered a $5,000 monetary award while urging caution for area parents amidst a pattern of similar attacks. Just two days earlier in the same neighborhood, 18-year-old Tanaya Grant Copeland was fatally stabbed. Adams also addressed the recent rise of gun violence, as seen across Brooklyn and the city over the weekend.

BAY RIDGE — Tom Kane, the late journalist, actor, playwright, theater impresario and civic leader who helped children and the less fortunate, has been immortalized by New York City, which officially dedicated the Bay Ridge street where he grew up in his name during a touching and memorable ceremony on Saturday.

BOROUGHWIDE — A 33-year-old Brooklyn Man, Randy Manning, convicted of fatally shooting an aspiring rapper in a New Jersey home and setting the body on fire, has been sentenced to life in prison. Manning — who was convicted in March on numerous charges, including murder, arson, desecrating human remains and vehicle theft — must serve at least 65 years of the sentence imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole. The charges stemmed from the August 2011 slaying of Rhian Stoute, a 33-year-old Brooklyn man who performed under the name Kampane. (AP)

BOROUGHWIDE — A newly-created Task Force on Behavioral Health and the Criminal Justice System will immediately work to create a strategic, actionable plan to ensure proper diversion routes and treatment for people with mental illness or substance abuse within the criminal justice system, as well as before and after contact with the system. Co-Chaired by Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services Lilliam Barrios-Paoli and Director of the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice Elizabeth Glazer, the task force is composed of commissioners from city, state, and law enforcement agencies, district attorneys, defenders and providers in the intersecting worlds of criminal justice and behavioral health, and will be advised by experts from the private sector.

WILLIAMSBURG Rising rent and various construction projects are forcing different retailers out of the area. According to Chairman Faith Consolo of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, rent prices rose 60 percent within the last year.  This increase in rent prices can be attributed to the departure of several  independent businesses in the Williamsburg area.

SHEEPSHEAD BAY —  A 69-year-old deaf and mute man reportedly disappeared at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday by Ocean Avenue and Avenue R.  Ruben Nunez is hispanic, about 5-foot-10-inches tall and about 140 pounds.  He was last seen wearing a green shirt and blue pants.

CROWN HEIGHTS — Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, along with NYCEDC Chief Operating Officer Zac Smith, Brownstoner Media Founder Jonathan Butler and BFC Partners Managing Principal Donald Capoccia, will host a ribbon-cutting event celebrating the launch of 1000 Dean Street in Crown Heights today at 11 a.m. at 1000 Dean St. (mid-block between Franklin and Classon Avenues, on the south side of the building). The $30 million adaptive reuse project has transformed the 150,000-square-foot former Studebaker Service Station from lifeless storage facility into small business hub with scores of small businesses and hundreds of workers.

BAY RIDGE Adjustments have been made to help make a dangerous intersection safer at Owls Park Head and Shore Parkway Greenway.  Improvements include newly marked bike lanes and widened sidewalks at the intersection of Shore Road and 68th Street.

EAST NEW YORK A fire erupted early Monday in an East New York apartment building, injuring nine people.  The fire took place at about 3 a.m. at the 390 Georgia Ave. apartment building.  Those injured in the fire were sent to Brookdale Hospital.  (DNAinfo New York)

CITYWIDE- Federal officials say they’ll fund a series of four designs to protect the New York City and New Jersey region from storms like Superstorm Sandy. The project will cost more than $500 million and include an eight-mile series of dykes to protect lower lying areas of Manhattan (AP)
