NYPD promotes Jeff O’Neill to chief of patrol

Police Commissioner William J. Bratton announced Friday that Deputy Chief James P. O’Neill to be promoted to Chief of Patrol.

“Chief O’Neill’s more than 30 years of experience within the Department will bring an exceptional level of expertise to the largest Bureau within the NYPD. He has proven himself as a respected leader throughout the Department who is dedicated to the men and women who serve under him, as well as the residents of New York City. A true public servant, Chief O’Neill will further the mission of the NYPD and its leadership team,” said Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.

Chief O’Neill will succeed Chief of Patrol James P. Hall who is retiring on May 30 to pursue a career in the private sector. O’Neill will be promoted on June 2 at a Department promotion ceremony held at One Police Plaza.
