As the weather has warmed up, the Fontbonne bats have cooled off as the Bonnies have lost three of their last four games to end the regular season with a record of 8-4. Fortunately for Fontbonne, the Bonnies got off to a quick 6-1 start to stay among one of the leaders of the CHSAA Softball Brooklyn/Queens AA Division.

Now, with their regular season over and their playoff seeding to be decided, the Bonnies await the outcome of three rained-out Molloy games to decide Fontbonne’s possible first or second seeding for their division playoff.

April 28 @ Christ the King – FHA15, CTK 0The starting pitcher for Christ the King had control problems, walking multiple batters to allow the Bonnies to take an early 7-0 by the bottom of the first inning that set the tone for rest of the game.

Fontbonne’s Nicolette Trapani recorded her sixth win of the season with eight strikeouts in a four-inning shortened game where Coach Frank Marinello was able to rest his starters after pulling them from the game with such a large lead.

On the win, the Bonnies improved their record to 8-3 to face Molloy on Friday, May 2 in a game that could decide the Brooklyn/Queens Division regular season title.

May 2 vs. Archbishop Molloy – Molloy 3, FHA1Molloy pitcher Alexandra Yule allowed just three hits while the Stanners scored twice in the sixth inning to defeat Fontbonne Hall, 3-1 on Friday afternoon when the two top-contending teams met at Dyker Park in Brooklyn.

Fontbonne pitcher Trapani had a tough first inning, hitting two batters and allowing a single to Kristen Maurer. With the bases loaded, Tyler Moss hit a RBI sacrifice fly to left field to give the Stanners a 1-0 lead.

Trapani bore down to get out of the inning by striking out the next two Stanner batters, Jamie Durso and Grace Anne Crockett, to end the first inning threat.

The Bonnies had a chance to grab the lead in the bottom of the third when Christina Calascione reached first on a throwing error and ended up at second base.

Julia Schalk followed with a liner single to left field that sent Calascione home only to be tagged out at the plate on a highly disputed call. On the throw to the plate, Schalk advanced to second and scored on Ariana Dillon’s single to left to tie the game at 1-1.

The Stanners’ Yule kept the Bonnies off balance with a mix a fastballs and dipping curves to keep Fontbonne scoreless for the next four innings. Molloy broke the tie in the sixth inning when Maurer singled and Camille Sears followed with a hard line drive that bounced past Fontbonne left fielder Deliana Allegretti to plate two runs for the 3-1 win.
