Dr. Margaret M. Minson, a product of Catholic education, who has spent the last several years providing access to such education to thousands of underserved students throughout New York City, has been appointed President of Brooklyn’s Bishop Kearney High School.

“Margaret brings her love of education, dedication to students and passion for our congregation’s mission to this new role”, said Sister Helen Kearney, CSJ, President of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Dr. Minson has been serving as the Executive Director of Student Sponsor Partners, an organization devoted to addressing the high-school dropout crisis in New York City by providing tuition scholarships and mentoring to students from families living below the poverty line, so that they can attend and succeed in the City’s Catholic schools. Earlier, she was the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Marymount Manhattan College and St. Joseph’s College.  She holds degrees from St. Joseph’s College, Brooklyn College and Fordham University.

In addition to her vast background in adolescent education, Dr. Minson herself was educated by the Sisters of St. Joseph, the community that sponsors Bishop Kearney High School, and her mother, Margaret Mary Dwyer, taught side-by-side with the Sisters of St. Joseph for 35 years.

“I’m extremely pleased to be working with the Sisters of St. Joseph again and to offer to the young women of Kearney the educational opportunities that the Sisters offered to me”, Dr. Minson said.

As President, Dr. Minson plans on expanding the school’s mission of educating women who shape the future.  Recent graduates have been accepted to some of the nation’s most prestigious universities, such as Harvard and Yale.

Bishop Kearney High School was founded in 1961. It consists of grades 9-12 and attracts students from three boroughs, as well as international applicants from mainland China. In addition to rigorous Advanced Placement and college preparatory curriculum, Bishop Kearney also has award-winning sports and arts programs.
