With the Norwegian American May 17th Parade just weeks away, the committee that organizes the march had its third annual fundraiser, raising about $6,000 in funds to help defray the cost of the parade.

To that end, on April 6, about 100 people attended the fundraiser held at The Salty Dog Bar & Grill from 4 to 8 p.m. Enhancing the effort, there were different raffle prizes, door prizes and a 50/50. The event also offered a light buffet and dessert.

“It was very cool because people came and stayed in a little while,” said Arlene Rutuelo, president of the Norwegian Day Parade Committee.

The parade will take place on Sunday, May 18, kicking off at 1:30 p.m. from Third Avenue and 80th Street, and heading along Third Avenue to Leif Ericson Park where ceremonies will be held at the reviewing stand, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.

The theme of this year’s parade is 200 Years of Democracy.
