Funds sought for fallen Brooklyn NYPD officer’s family
A foundation is collecting funds to help the family of the police officer killed in a Brooklyn fire.
The Silver Shield Foundation says the money will go toward college expenses for Officer Dennis Guerra’s four children.
Foundation Chairman Billy Walters tells the New York Post that Guerra’s death is “a tragedy for everyone.”
Guerra’s partner, Officer Rosa Rodriguez, remained in critical condition on Thursday.
They were overcome by carbon monoxide and smoke on Sunday in an apartment building hallway.
Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy. They allege he started a mattress fire because he was bored.
