Superstorm Sandy-related subway repairs to the G line are going to make it a lot harder for many Brooklynites to get around this summer.

The G train will be suspended from July 26 through September 1 between Long Island City and Nassau Avenue.

State Senator Daniel Squadron and other officials will be hosting a community town hall on Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. to answer riders’ questions and get input into what needs to be done during the shutdown.  The event takes place at the Polish & Slavic Center, 176 Java Street, between McGuinness and Manhattan Avenue.

“If you want to get around Brooklyn or to Queens, the G is often the only way,” State Senator Daniel Squadron said Tuesday. “That’s why I’m inviting community members to bring their ideas and join me, my colleagues, and relevant agencies to figure out how to make this closure as painless as possible.”

The G line is the only subway line reaching riders in Greenpoint, but also serves Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope and other Brooklyn neighborhoods. The MTA will be providing shuttle service during the shutdown.

Sandy-related repairs to the R train route, currently in progress, are expected to last through October.

Other officials participating in the town hall include Congressmember Maloney, Borough President Adams, State Senator Dilan, Assemblymember Lentol, Councilmember Levin, and CB1. For more information or to RSVP contact Senator Squadron’s office at 718-875-1517 or [email protected]
