Good morning. Today is the 74th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for March 10, 1901, ran a story with the headline “Jealousy, Pistol Shots, Police: A First-Rate Melodrama Enacted at the Corner of Front and Water Streets.” The assailant was Vito Truglio, 46, of Bridge Street, and the victim, who police said was expected to live, was his nephew, Giovanni Truglio, 21. Both were tailors. Vito had been in the country for 12 years, and Giovanni had been here for four years. According to Vito, not only had his nephew been trying to steal his new wife, he had tried to hit him on the head with a hammer.

Well-known people who were born today include former astronaut Alan Bean, model Fabio, Brooklyn-born U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, actor Judd Hirsch (“Taxi,” “Ordinary People”), singer-musician Mike Love of the Beach Boys, singer Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), singer-musician Sly Stone (Sly & the Family Stone) and actor Craig Wasson (“Phyllis”).
