Good morning. Today is the 65th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of March 6, 1891, reported that Terino Falini, an Italian-American barber whose shop was near Hicks Street and Atlantic Avenue, was the victim of a swindle. Three other Italian-American men approached him, saying that they were coming from Chicago and were traveling back to Italy. They told him they had quite a lot of money with them, but wanted to exchange it for Italian legal tender. Falini told them he knew a currency broker nearby. The three thieves then said they had an errand to do in the neighborhood and would be back shortly, but they didn’t feel comfortable carrying that much cash. They gave him a package they said was filled with paper money, and in turn, he gave them his gold watch as collateral. When they failed to return, Falini opened the package and found it was filled with only tobacco.
