Good morning. Today is the 64th day of the year. On this day in 1937, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle printed an interview with William E. Starkweather, watercolor painter and professor of art at Hunter College. Starkweather maintained that it was only a matter of time that Downtown Brooklyn became a mecca for artists.  “Its proximity to Lower Manhattan makes it more desirable than many of the overcrowded neighborhoods surrounding Greenwich Village,” said Starkweather, who lived on State Street in Brooklyn Heights. He was right, but about 60 years too soon.

Well-known people who were born today include actress Eva Mendes, football player Michael Irvin, actress Samantha Eggar (“Samantha and the King,” “The Collector”), actor Paul Sand (Tony for “Story Theatre”), actress Marsha Warfield (“Night Court,” “Empty Nest”), and actor and former football star Fred Williamson (“Julia,” “Half Nelson”).
