Community will hold a fundraiser for family of woman killed by snow plow
Sunset Park residents and elected officials are holding a fundraiser to help the family of pregnant snow plow victim Min Lin, 36, fly in relatives from China and Canada to New York for her funeral.
Representatives from the Chinese American Planning Council-Brooklyn Chapter held a press conference on Tuesday, February 18 to announce the fundraiser, which will take place on Friday, February 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Pacificana Restaurant (813 55th Street) in Sunset Park.
Lin was nine months pregnant when she was struck and killed by a Bobcat snowplow in the rear parking lot of Fei Long Market near 63rd Street and Eighth Avenue at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 13 – just hours into another brutal snowstorm.
Paramedics rushed her to Maimonides Medical Center where she soon died but doctors were able to deliver her baby boy via emergency Caesarean section.
The driver of the snow plow received three summonses but does not face criminal charges at this time.
The victim’s husband, Jin Feng Lin, has started an online fundraiser on crowdfunding website Indiegogo to raise enough money to bring relatives from around the world to the states for the memorial service.
