Do you think your property taxes are too high? Who doesn’t?

There’s good news, according to Councilman Vincent Gentile, who said you can file an appeal with the city.

Gentile (D-Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Bensonhurst) is sponsoring a free seminar on “How to Appeal Your Property Taxes” on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at William McKinley Intermediate School, 7301 Fort Hamilton Parkway in Bay Ridge, at 7:30 p.m. The entrance is located on the 74th Street side of the school building.

Kirk P. Tzanides, a commissioner of the New York City Tax Commission, will be at the seminar to offer information to property owners.

The New York City Department of Finance is responsible for assessing the value of all properties, collecting property taxes, and maintaining records.

Property taxes in New York City are divided into four classes according to the assessed value of the property. For 2013, the rates were as follows: Class 1, 19.191 per cent; Class 2, 13.145 percent; Class 3, 11.902 percent; and Class 4, 10.232 percent.

For more information on the seminar, call Gentile’s office at 718-748-5200.
