Liberty View Plaza seeks tenants for Sunset Park waterfront

Liberty View Plaza, one of the largest commercial real estate spaces to become available in Brooklyn in years, has opened up leasing opportunities, according to Brownstoner and representatives Jeff Unger of Kalmon Dolgin, and Jordan Gosin and Howard Kesseler of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

The 1.1 million square feet of space, located in a nearly-century-old manufacturing warehouse on the Sunset Park waterfront at 850 Third Avenue, between 30^th and 32^nd Streets, was purchased in August, 2011 by developer Salmar Properties.

Tenants will include BrightFarms, which will take over 100,000 square feet of the roof, creating the world’s largest rooftop greenhouse and hydroponic farm to produce organic produce for local stores and eateries, and “big box” retailer Bed, Bath & Beyond on the ground floor.

The building, formerly known as Federal Building #2—after its history as a warehouse for the U.S. Department of the Navy—is planned as a hub for prospective tenants in the technology, light industrial and creative industries, according to zoning regulations and statements from the developer.

Construction and hiring at the eight-story building is projected to create at least 1,300 permanent jobs and 400 construction jobs.

Thus far, the building has been renovated to include new passenger and freight elevators, energy-efficient lighting and windows, a central HVAC system, and full internet access.

Some retailers are due to open later in 2014.
