Schumer wants New York to host another Super Bowl
The Denver Broncos probably didn’t think Super Bowl XLVIII was much fun, not after the 43-8 drubbing they suffered at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. But to U.S. Senator Schumer, the event was a smashing success.
It was so successful, according to Schumer, that he thinks the New York-New Jersey region should get the chance to host another Super Bowl.
Schumer said that not only was the Super Bowl itself a big hit with the NFL and with football fans, but the Super Bowl week festivities, including “Super Bowl Boulevard” in Times Square, drew large crowds and brought in important tourism dollars.
Schumer expressed the hope that New York can host another Super Bowl within the next decade.
“Hosting a Super Bowl in New York is good for the fans, good for the teams, good for the city and good for the country,” Schumer said in a statement.
The big game and its surrounding activities “brought an influx of tourists to New York and put the eyes of the entire world on us,” Schumer said.
The official website of Times Square boasted that the boulevard, set up by the Super Bowl Host Committee and GM, included a live concert, the Vince Lombardi Trophy and a specially made toboggan.
“That is why I am beginning my campaign to bring the Super Bowl back to New York again within the next decade. It is time for New York to join the list of cities that regularly host the Big Game, and we should not have to wait another 48 years to host it again,” he said. “Maybe next time the Giants will play the Bills or the Jets in the game. Now that would be really super.”
