From now until early Friday, Jan. 31, MTA New York City Transit is bringing Fastrack to the Eastern Parkway trunk line in Brooklyn between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Fastrack is a program in which the MTA shuts down a line for repairs during several consecutive nights. The program, introduced in early 2012, was designed to avoid line shutdowns and diversions during the busy weekends, when most repair work was performed in the past.

This week, 2 and 4 trains will run express in both directions between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Franklin Avenue, bypassing Bergen Street, Grand Army Plaza and Eastern Parwkay. The 3 and 5 lines, which use the line during the day, don’t run to Brooklyn late at night.

People who are headed for Bergen Street, Grand Army Plaza and Eastern Parkway will be served by shuttle buses between Atlantic and Franklin avenues. In addition, the Q train station at Seventh Avenue in Park Slope is fairly close to Grand Army Plaza and Bergen Street.

News for those who live, work and play in Brooklyn and beyond

Fastrack initially concentrated on high-volume Manhattan subway lines, but this year there will be several Brooklyn shutdowns under the program. The next Fastrack overnight closure, from Feb. 3 to 7 and again from Feb. 10 to 14, will be on the A and C lines between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street and Broadway Junction-East New York.

In addition, the G train between Bedford-Nostrand and Church avenues will be shut down twice, once in May and the second time in September. Service on the R and N trains between 36th Street and 95th Street-Bay Ridge will similarly be shut down for several days in June, with N trains rerouted to the D line to Coney Island.

Elevated and surface lines are not chosen for Fastrack repair work because of problems with lighting and the dangers of working above-ground late at night.
