Cardinals and Raiders duke it out on the gridiron

Parkville’s full tackle football program produced a classic gridiron nail-biter when the PYO Cardinals duked it out with the PYO Raiders.

The focus was on defense and both squads stepped up to the challenge. The ice was broken on the second play of the game when Robert “Sun Dance” Ferraioli charged 40 yards, breaking tackles all along the way, for the first score.

The Cardinals were pumped up when the Raiders were forced to punt on the 21 yard line. Christopher “Postman” Neary blocked the punt and Johnny Santiago made the recovery for the Cards. Johnny “Day Light” Nisbet kept the assault sizzling by bullying his way 20 yards to pay dirt to tie, 6-all.

Another fumble by the Raiders was recovered by Johnny “Day Light” that set up the next Cardinal score. Brandon Diaz found a hole in the Raider line and ran eight yards to make it 12- 6. David Nisbet got the extra point that would be the winning point of this rumble.

With 39 seconds remaining on the clock, “Sun Dance” Ferraioli of the Raiders sprinted four yards, making the tally 13-12, Cardinals. Unfortunately, the Raiders were a point short when time ran out and the Cards went home with the bacon and the victory.

All the players on both squads did an outstanding job but some of them really gave 110 percent. The Raiders’ pride who stepped up the challenge were Joshua Narvaez, Jacob Gil, Julien DeLacruz, Colin “Under Taker” Trainor and Stephen “Bone Crusher” Sottile. The Cardinal players that made the difference were David Nisbet (fumble recovery), Brandon Rivera, Diaz, Daniel Licata, Neary (blocked punt) and Jonny Santiago (fumble recovery).

In another exciting game, the opening kick-off brought fans to their feet and shouts of cheers when Dante D’Egidio of the Jets charged 45 yards to pay dirt. Jasiah Raso bullied his way over for the point after.

Raso continued the Jets’ assault with a 23-yard TD spiral to Dean Asaeda after Asaeda intercepted a Falcon pass. The Jets stuck to their aerial attack and Asaeda hit Kevin Resto with a 12-yard bullet. The extra point was scored by Sean Asaeda, giving the Jets a 20-zip advantage at the half.

The Falcons fought for every inch of Parkville turf, advancing to the two yard line. Dominick “Warrior” Marino prevented the shutout by muscling his way on to golden soil.

There was 1:45 to go in the game and it looked like the Falcons had a chance to score again but the star they were wishing on was all used up and Matthew “Sure Thing” Sciarrone was on hand to sack the Falcon quarterback and recover the Falcon fumble. The final tally was 20-6, Jets.

Some of the amazing players surfaced during the struggle were Anthony “A-Train” Barreira, Jasiatt Rason (fumble recovery), Trystin ‘Grim Reaper” Tusa, Sciarrone (fumble recovery), Robert “Pay Dirt” Lay, Charles Corbin, Jonathan “Tombstone” Hockfeld and Joshua Torres.

The Parkville Youth Organization is revamping its in-house baseball program by focusing on individual performances. The Star Movement, LLC has been brought on board to provide technical skills to instruct coaches and players on how to improve their baseball skills. If you are interested in your child learning how to play baseball, improve their skills and have fun, then the program is for you.

The goal is for every child to achieve success in reaching his or her own potential.
