Schumer requests more federal heating aid to NY
ALBANY— Sen. Charles Schumer says he’s asking the federal government to immediately release more than $35 million to subsidize home heating for New Yorkers affected by a run of frigid weather.
Schumer says some money from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is currently being held back. He says that as of November, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services only obligated $316 million of the $351 million available for state residents this winter.
With cold weather across the state, he says the money should be released now.
