A hotel/business center complex may be joining the development mini-boom going on in Sunset Park if its application is approved by the city’s Department of Buildings (DOB).

Flushing-based Michael Kang Architect is designing the six-story, 88-unit, 30,021-square-foot hotel at 833 39th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, according to the DOB application, which describes the plans as including 20 interior parking spots, a business center, a restaurant, a kitchen accessory store, exercise room and more. The property is owned by 833 39th Street Realty, according to city records.

If approved, the hotel would join the growing list of hotels and condominiums that are coming to Sunset Park as people continue to move deeper into Brooklyn in search of relatively affordable housing. Hotel BPM opened in 2012 with a music-inspired theme, and construction on a futuristic-looking, six-story, 70-unit hotel to be located at 457 39th Street—also designed by Michael Kang Architect—has already begun.

The neighborhood of immigrants, small businesses and light manufacturing is becoming a magnet for the city’s ongoing economic redevelopment plans.

The area has already welcomed part of a new waterfront park and a massive new recycling center, and will be part of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway and Brooklyn Nets’ expansion in 2014, which is also when new retail and business space at LibertyView Plaza (formerly Federal Building #2), Industry City and Bush Terminal will begin opening.
