Students at Saint Patrick Catholic Academy recently ditched their school uniforms in favor of pajamas. But don’t worry. The youngsters didn’t get into trouble.

The school’s principal, Andrea D’Emic, gave her permission!

Third graders at the Catholic school at 401 97th St. in Bay Ridge wore their favorite PJs to class on Dec. 17 as part of their class salute to “The Polar Express,” a classic children’s book written in 1985 by Chris Van Allsburg.

Their teacher, Erin Watters, read the book aloud in class.

Wearing pajamas allowed the students to get into the spirit of “The Polar Express,” which tells the story of a young boy who boards a mysterious train in the middle of the night headed for the North Pole. The boy is joined by lots of other youngsters, all in their pajamas.

In the book, the train leads them all straight to Santa Claus and on a timeless adventure that captures the magic of Christmas. The book won Van Allsburg the Caldecott Medal for children’s literature, according to Barnes & Noble, which also reported that the book has sold more than 7 million copies to date.
