The Brooklyn Technical High School Moot (Appeals) Court team was crowned as the New York City Moot Court Champion on Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Thurgood Marshall Federal Courthouse in Lower Manhattan.

The Brooklyn Tech Moot Court Team represented the petitioner accused in a stop-and-frisk case and argued their case before three real federal judges, including U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Denny Chin, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of New York Margo K. Brodie and U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York James Orenstein.

Brooklyn Tech bested the High School of American Studies at Lehman College to win the citywide title.

Brooklyn Technical High School students Muhammad Mustafa and Andrei Moraru successfully answered a barrage of questions from the three judges by weaving together carefully crafted answers based on case law precedent and public policy.

Fellow Brooklyn Tech team members Mary Cao and Pavel Kushnerov had won the prior round at Fordham Law School. In that round, they represented the police in the same case. Students Gianni Wong and Edward Bello also assisted.

The Brooklyn Tech students were assisted by attorney-coaches from the law firm of Cahill, Gordon & Reindel.
