A day for our veterans

America’s wounded war veterans were in the forefront at Skinflints Restaurant in late September, at a lunch held to salute and celebrate those who served.

The fall event honored the men and women that have been injured protecting our freedom. On hand were Sergeant Chris Willingham and wounded dog Lucca, who received a purple heart, which is given to all those injured in the service. Willingham and Lucca still serve by training Army dogs and handlers.

“It was tremendous,” said veteran Howard Dunn, a member of American Legion Amity Post 791 and a strong advocate for veterans in general, and Wounded Warriors in particular.

Firefighters and others in the community also attended the repast which was organized by Linda Thompson. The American Legion raised money for the cause by selling t-shirts as well.

“The day was very good, the food was off the charts, and we had a good time supporting our troops,” said Dunn.
