“Many people worry that a holiday gift has to be exactly what he wants,” says Kathryn Drury Wagner, senior content manager at Gifts.com. “The survey reveals that men don’t often share what they want, but aren’t disappointed when receiving something that’s not on their mental list. That means there’s more flexibility in buying for the men in our lives and opportunity for creative or unexpected gifts.”

Indeed, 38 percent of respondents don’t share what they want, despite keeping mental lists, with 55 percent citing the reason of not wanting anyone to feel obligated to buy them gifts.

When men express preferences, certain gift types are clear winners. About 43 percent request some form of media (books, music, movies), while 35 percent want tools, and an impressive 25 percent hope for practicalities like socks, ties or underwear.

With such a broad range of desired gifts, many shoppers are turning to online gift finders like Gifts.com which lets users peruse this season’s top 10 gifts for men.
