Carnegie Mellon University will start a master’s program focusing on technology and media in New York City.

The Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Mellon says its Integrative Media Program will open in August 2015 at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

University officials say areas of study will include film, games, social media, interactive computing, performing and visual arts, and urban design.

Carnegie Mellon Provost Mark Kamlet says New York City is the perfect setting for providing education in “technology-based modes of expression and production.”

Steiner Studios opened in 2004 and is home to TV productions including HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

Students in the new master’s program will be able to use some facilities there.

About 40 students and 10 visiting students are expected to enroll annually in the Brooklyn program.
