Hofesh Shechter Company returns to BAM from Nov. 14-16 with the U.S. premiere of Sun—an evening-length work for 14 dancers with both choreography and an eclectic soundtrack featuring original music by Hofesh Shechter. For Sun, Shechter is joined by longtime collaborators Lee Curran (lighting designer) and Merle Hensel (set designer). Christina Cunningham of Théatre de Complicité joins the artistic team as costume designer. Sun recently made its world premiere as part of the Melbourne Festival, where The Guardian said, “The movement in Sun is complex and gorgeous, weaving extremely disparate physical languages into seamless, tightly-woven phrases. Lindy hop, 18th- and 19th-century classical ballet, belly dancing, Balkan circle, MTV-style group choreography, mystic dances and religious gestures are all in evidence…Shechter is a magnificent, one-of-a-kind choreographer.”

The company made its BAM debut with Political Mother (2012 Next Wave)—a work of raw brutality set to a driving score. Sun features an expanded company (12 of its 14 dancers performed in Political Mother).

The Nov. 14-16 performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. at BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera House. Tickets: $20, 30, 40, 50 (weekday); $25, 35, 45, 55 (weekend).
