Good morning. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Nov. 6, 1902, revealed that there would be a scarcity of anthracite coal during the winter months. In those days, coal was almost universally used for heating homes, businesses and institutional buildings. The Eagle said that most people would have to make due with soft coal, which was much less efficient.

Well-known people who were born today include actress Emma Stone (“Superbad,” “Easy A,), actress Sally Field (“Norma Rae,” ‘Places in the Heart”), actor Lance Kerwin (“James at 15”), film and stage director Mike Nichols (“The Graduate”) and actor Ethan Hawke (“Training Day,” ‘Before Sunrise,” “Dead Poets Society”).
