Race for Marines in the Bay Ridge Semper Fi Fund 5K Run
On November 2, local runners will put their best feet forward for the third annual Bay Ridge Semper Fi Fund 5K Run, which raises funds to help injured Marines.
The event was kicked off in 2010 by Cathie Gearity, sister of Second Marine Division Commander and lifelong Bay Ridge resident John Toolin.
All money raised goes to benefit injured Marines. And each year has proven to be widely successful. During the first year of the race, it raised nearly $7,000. Last year, the number jumped to $8,000. Local businesses, such as Foodtown, Bookmark Shoppe and Chadwick’s, have also contributed in a big way.
