The block of 57th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues was the scene of a grisly quintuple murder the evening of Saturday, October 26.

While responding to a 9-1-1 call of a person stabbed inside 870 57th Street, police discovered five people unconscious and unresponsive – including four children – all with stab wounds about the upper portions of their bodies.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced three of the victims dead at the scene: nine-year-old Linda Zhuo, one-year-old William Zhuo and seven-year-old Amy Zhuo. EMS took 37-year-old Qiao Zhen Li and five-year-old Kevin Zhuo to Lutheran Medical Center where they were both pronounced dead on arrival.

The following day, police arrested the victim’s cousin Mingdong Chen, 25, who was living with the family. He has been charged with one count of first degree murder, four counts of second degree murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

According to reports, Chen killed the mother and her children while her husband was at work. He had been living with the family for several months.

NYPD Chief of Department Phillip Banks said in an interview with CBS News that Chen was jealous of his family’s success and took out his rage on them with a meat cleaver.

The investigation is ongoing.
