Good morning. Today is the 301st day of the year. On this day in 1902, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle carried a report about a plan to widen Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn between Court Street and Flatbush Avenue. The job was estimated to cost $2.25 million. By doing so, the city Highway Department reasoned, the city could divert some of the streetcars on Fulton Street to Livingston, since the number of shoppers from “uptown districts” (Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick and East New York) was expected to double in the coming years.

Well-known people who were born today include singer-musician Charlie Daniels, former football player Terrell Davis, actress Julia Roberts (“Erin Brokovich,” “Ocean’s Eleven”), actor Denis Franz (“Hill Street Blues”) and actress Jane Alexander (“The Great White Hope,” “Kramer vs Kramer”).
